Free Bidding Registration
You must register if you want to bid at our used car auctions.
You must:
- Fill out a Buyer Registration Card (available in the main foyer)
- Provide some photo identification (current Australian Driver’s licence or passport)
By registering, you agree to the ‘Terms and Conditions of Sale’ written on the form.
Buyer Number
Once registration is complete, you will receive a Buyer Number.
The Buyer Number allows you to bid at any Southbank Auto Auctions public car auction being held in Melbourne on that day.
You must apply for a new buyer number at each auction site you attend.
Bidding
To bid, get the attention of the auctioneer (raise your hand or wave your buyer’s number).
Used car auction bidding usually increases by $100 or $500 increments. The auctioneer can nominate a higher or lower amount (at the auctioneer’s discretion).
You cannot withdraw a bid once you have made it.
If your bid is successful, you will be requested to hold up your buyer’s number.
Vehicle Condition
Each car is road tested.
A Road Test Report is displayed on each car. The report is a guide only and there are no associated guarantees.
FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY REASONS YOU CANNOT TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLES OR START THE ENGINE.
Each car is driven through our auction lanes.
Deposits
A Southbank Auto Auctions Deposit Clerk will approach you after successful bidding.
You must give a minimum 10% deposit or $500, whichever is the greater amount (bank cheque or cash).
Reserve Prices
A reserve price is placed on most cars.
Referral
If the bid is below the seller’s reserve price, it will either be ‘passed in’ or ‘referred’ in favour of the highest bidder and discussed with the seller.
You must report to the Auctioneer’s rostrum and wait for the referral result.
GST Inclusive
All auction bid prices are GST inclusive, unless the owner of the goods is not GST registered (in this case, no GST is payable on the lot bid for).
Lots sold on behalf of owners not GST registered will be separately identified in the catalogue.
Paying for Cars
The balance of money owed on the car (after deposit) must be paid by 4pm the next business day after sale.
